Overview of Research at Rome

Epigenetics and Neurobiology

Scientists at EMBL Rome explore the connections between genome, environment, and neural function. At this site, neuroscientists and epigeneticists work side by side and draw on each other for insights, inspiration, and advice.

Overview of Research at Hamburg

Structural Biology

Activities at EMBL Hamburg focus on state-of-the-art structural biology methods using synchrotron radiation, combining cutting-edge technology with an ambitious research programme for structures of multifunctional proteins and protein complexes of biomedical relevance.

About the team

From the live site: The Cipriani team develops instruments and methods for structural biology research and works with industry to make them available to scientists worldwide.

Previous and current research

The core activity of our team is to develop instruments and methods for X-ray scattering experiments. The CrystalDirect™ harvester jointly developed with the Márquez team is now in routine use at the High Throughput Crystallisation lab: associated to a FlexED3 cryo-storage unit (Figure 1): crystals grown in CrystalDirect™ plates can be marked remotely using a web service and automatically mounted onto Spine pins. The machine is particularly suitable for harvesting micro-crystals, fragile crystals, as well as batches of micro-crystals. With a capacity of three pucks, the system performs up to 30 harvestings in less than 45 minutes.

No content yet prepared for this facet combination. Remember this is juat a thin-skin prototype, the "real" version will be driven off content and not a flaky JS read of the URL bar.

About this

This prototype demonstrates cross-silo navigation (it is structural design, not visual design).

This demonstrates how it would feel to navigate not ⬆️⬇️ up-and-down a silo but ⬅️➡️ across silos.

To illustrate:

As this is contextual cross-silo navigation, it will not often appear in the main body content, but rather in the global header and footer navigation structures.
